Interested in Starting Counseling?
You can schedule your first appointment, called the initial assessment, by calling 319-273-2676. You will receive intake questions in an email prior to your appointment. Thank you for taking the time to complete these forms so we have the information we need to best take care of you.
Appointments
Counseling begins with an initial assessment.
To schedule an initial assessment appointment, please call the Counseling Center at 319-273-2676.
You should allow 90 minutes for your initial assessment. Once you arrive at the Counseling Center, you will provide written information about yourself and your concerns, and will the meet with a counselor for about 30 to 60 minutes. You and your counselor will explore your concerns and discuss what additional services may be helpful to you.
Your initial assessment with a counselor may result in scheduled individual counseling sessions, group therapy, referral to the Student Health Clinic for medication or referral to appropriate services in the local community. During the busiest times of the semester, you may be placed on a call list or wait list. If you are on a call list, we will contact you when we have openings, such as when we have cancellations. If you are on a wait list, we will contact you when we can assign you to a counselor.
There is a $25 fee charged if you do not attend or cancel a scheduled appointment. Please call the Counseling Center at 319-273-2676 to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Besides saving yourself the $25 "no show" fee, letting us know if you cannot keep your appointment may allow us to provide services to another student during that time.
