You Matter At UNI
September 9 - 13, 2024
The purpose of #YouMatterAtUNI is to increase the awareness of supportive resources, while celebrating the diversity of students and their experiences, in an effort to promote our students' sense of belonging on campus. This initiative is a part of national Suicide Prevention Week!
- Objectives:
- Build Connections: promotes a sense of belonging for all students
- Recognize your Worth: increase awareness around mental wellbeing & suicide prevention
- Celebrate Individuality, Authenticity, and Diversity
- Reach Out: promote the resources & people at UNI ready and willing to support you
The week will consist of various events including (but not limited to) mental health & suicide prevention trainings, lunch & learns, Instagram challenges and the launch of our new workshop Thriving Minds: Support your Mental Wellbeing. There will also be an exciting opportunity to help us go VIRAL with TheMOVEment student organization.

Sharpen Your Focus: A Practical Toolbox for Growth & Success (Monday, September 9)
Having a hard time focusing? Come learn about the four online, group workshops that start the week of the 17th, that can teach you skills to sharpen your focus!
Maucker Union - Oak Room on lower levelGratitude & Self-Compassion (Tuesday, September 10)
Participants will learn the benefits of self-compassion and gratitude as it relates to their emotional and social well-being while also having an opportunity to practice through engaging in interactive activities. Resources will be provided. Bring your lunch and engage in gratitude and self-compassion activities that are proven to increase happiness!
Maucker Union - Oak Room on lower levelThriving Minds: Support you Mental Wellbeing (Thursday, September 12)
Five common things come up when doctors, counselors, and other helping professionals are asked what one can do to better their mental wellbeing (health). Come learn about the science behind those five things, get some tips/tricks/recommendations, and maybe do a little practice!

- Instagram Challenges
Guidelines: Post challenge on day of challenge, include hashtag #YouMatterAtUNI and tag @uniprevention and @uni_couns. Our favorite post of each day will win a prize! You will be notified through Instagram.
Monday
Connections = Sense of BelongingPost to Instagram a tribute of someone you have connected with on campus, that has helped you feel a sense of belonging.
Tuesday
Celebrate Individuality, Authenticity, and DiversityPost to Instagram a tribute of a person, place on campus, event, or memory at UNI that celebrates our individuality, authenticity, and diversity.
Wednesday
Meet Someone NewPost to Instagram a picture of you and a new person you met TODAY and engaged with. Building new connections, helps us grow our support networks, develop positive social and communication skill, and can help build our sense of belonging. Also, initiating connections with others help them know they matter.
Thursday
Act of KindnessPost to Instagram a picture of some act of kindness you complete. Acts of kindness can make others feel good, but also make you feel good about yourself!
Friday
Campus Resources that benefit your mental healthPost to Instagram a picture representing a campus resource that benefits your mental health! Examples: WRC, counseling center, wellness coach, a student group your part of, staff in an office on campus that helps/mentors you, etc.

A.S.K. & V.A.R.
A.S.K. & V.A.R. training aims to reduce the stigma around mental health, helping you learn how to listen and support others with everyday struggles.
Question, Persuade, Refer (Q.P.R.)
This suicide prevention training will help you identify signs of someone experience suicidal ideations, how to start a conversation with them, persuade them to get help, and what resources exist and how to refer them to help.

The MOVEment is choreographing a dance for social media, that communicates #YouMatteratUNI. Want to learn it to promote on social, and also learn a secret?
Join us Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30pm in Maucker Union Ballroom A.Sunrise Yoga Flow: This sunrise yoga flow will awaken both your mind and body as the day begins. Starting with
deep intentional breathing techniques. Then moving through a series of poses, syncing our
breath with movement. This flow cultivates focus and stability by incorporating mindfulness,
encouraging practitioners to be present, connect with their breath, and embrace the beginning
of a new day. No prior yoga or meditation experience is required to attend. Simply come exactly as you are!
